How time flies since Dee has left da haus...

More than a week has suddenly past since Dee's departure from Costa Rica and Colours for a new marketing project in the Big Apple. We have yet to recover from her visit and have many projects to complete from her efforts. From two new websites in production, two old sites in a state of change, numerous new urls and not to mention four blogs to maintain....the idea of simplifyin gay life in Costa Rica as we know it ..has now somehow become even more complex with the need to spend most of our free time in front of the blasted computers. Oh well, the entire crew of Colours still send these rainbow roses to Dee as a thank you for getting us restarted. The question now is ...can we keep it up????

Texas Invasion & 2 Degrees of Separation on Independence Day

Two tall drinks of water from Dallas wearing Longhorn-logo Crocs and new rain slicks arrived last week for thrills and chills. Three women from Austin were soon followinig in their footsteps, on Canopy and Rafting tours and otherwise exploring the Wilds of Costa Rica. Pity we didn't have any Lone Star beer in stock. (We settled for close-enough Corona!)

Mark and Kent were invited by James and Dee to attend the 4th of July celebration, where we mixed with lots of ex-pats. We were surpsied at the level of security and having to show our passports at entry point. And that there was no separation between tables of the Republicans Abroad and Democrats Abroad! The female Marine we were photographed with at ramdom, was from Commerce City, Colorado (James & Dee are from Denver-area too!)

The guys just happen to know someone James & Dee met in May. She was supposed to visit them @ Colours after meeting in Las Vegas at the IGLTA Convention. Imagine if Kent walked into our Rainforest Bar and saw her sipping on some happy hour beverage with Dee? You never know who you're going to meet at The Oasis.

Obama Obama! James registers to vote and is given an American Flag magnet. Made in China label affixed, of course! An American icon, made in China, distributed in Costa Rica to ex-pats. The American way, eh?

PS I told the Austin gang to holler at my erstwhile sister Maureen back home. She has never visited Costa Rica but I think she would love it as much as she did visiting Key West. Colours San Jose is an oasis not unlike Colours Key West of olde. They wrote in the guestbook that perhaps Colours is their new home away from home.

Six Degrees of Separation down to 2.5.

Synergy & community networking.

Along time ago, James walked into my travel agency and charasmatically lured me away to Key West circa 1983. We went our separate paths, but kept in touch over the
years till 25 anos mas I accepted his invitation to visit in Costa Rica. (Dee & James pictured in San Jose CR.)

While relaxing at his oasis (Colours Oasis Resort), I chatted with Carlos, and later met his partner Randy. When I asked him why he was working through the Siesta Hour, he replied that his sister Andrea was awaiting his approval on a new website for his business, Monte Azul Contemporary Art.

One thing led to another, and two days later, Bob and Steve, my hosts for a wet and wild tour of the mountains and stay at Las Aguas Jungle Lodge, had breakfast and the captain's tour of Monte Azul. Carlos &Randy on the left, and Bob & Steve on the right, reminded me of home and having dinner with my four brothers vying for the most of everything:>)

I am now using Carlos' sister as my web designer. Keeping it in the family. Ciao, DeeTouring Dee

Local Art Gallery Invites Colours Guests to Exhibit Opening June 26

Galeria Amodeo, just a few metres from our guesthouse, is featuring a new individual exposition by a Guatemalan artista Victor Perez-Maldonado. The exhibit is titled Jojman, Bina y Daat, and it opens at 8pm on June 26. All welcome.
-The Colours Concierge.

By coincidence, we have guests in-house this week who have opened a unique curated B&B in the mountains called Monte Azul. It is a contemporary art gallery in a breathtaking, magical environment. There are four rooms where guests enjoy original art on the walls or wood furniture made from recycled timber from their 125 acre property. Their 3 year-old property is an easy drive from Colours for those wanting to add onto their San Jose holiday with a cultural experience in a setting like no other!

The Green Season: A great time to visit

Costa Rica is about a thousand miles south of Florida - just 2.5 hours by air to San Jose. Because of its higher elevation, it is not as humid and buggy as you think.

The main attractions are open year-round, so why not take advantage of the lower rates during this rainy season?

The mornings are sunny and pleasant, and the rain clouds don't build up till late afternoon when you can be back at your home base having refreshments? :>)

I'm off to see the volcano this morning, which has been putting on a show this week for the Green Season guests who hail from US, Canada, Europe. In house this week we also had guys from Spain and France in addition to muchos gringos from the states.
